Finding out you’re having a baby is exciting. With that thrill often comes a number of questions, especially for first-time parents.
Our Baby University offers a variety of informative and interactive classes for parents-to-be. Sessions are led by our own OB-certified nurse midwives, nurses, a certified lactation consultant and a registered dietitian, all of whom can help you feel more empowered and confident as a parent.
All classes are FREE — even if you’re not delivering at Beaufort Memorial!
How will you feed your baby?
Producing breastmilk is natural, but the skill of latching the baby onto the breast is learned. We want to take the guesswork and anxiety out of this important choice. In this class, you will learn how your body works with your growing baby and what to expect in the first weeks and months after giving birth.
Beaufort Memorial provides a team of lactation-educated nurses to assist you as needed during breastfeeding.
Once you’re home, they remain available to answer questions via the 24/7 warm line at 843-522-5147.
Becoming a parent is a major life changing event. It can be wonderful but also stressful. Let us help you learn the basics with our baby basics class. This class will help ease your transition from hospital to home as a new family. Topics will include how to bond with your baby, infant cues and typical newborn behavior, feeding, diapering, bathing and skincare tips, circumcision information, sleep and car seat safety, and much more! It is recommended that you take this class during the seventh month of your pregnancy. It will be interactive and fun, with time for any questions you might have.
Please Note: Registration is required as we have a limited amount of class materials. If there is no registration button next to a class date, that session has been filled.
If you have questions or need assistance with registration, please call Cindy Coburn Smith at 843-522-5835.
As soon-to-be parents, you want to do everything you can to ease the labor process and make informed decisions. This class will cover childbirth methods, stages of labor and what to expect in the hospital labor room. You will also learn about pain management techniques, how your birth partner can help support you in labor and what you should pack to bring with you for a comfortable stay at the hospital.
